4th July 2010: A “COPD Education & Training camp” was held at Rajnagar of Birbhum district. These camps were attended by a huge number of patients (almost 150 in number). As before, we offered education, training on use of inhalation devices, free spirometry, clinical examination and prescription along with free snacks and some medicines.
In this camp the basics of the disease, as well as certain steps to prevent infective exacerbations were discussed. The patients were educated regarding the lifestyle adjustments that are required. Specific tips regarding nutrition and diet were also given. Respiratory exercises and a model of modified pulmonary rehabilitation was also demonstrated. Last but not the least the patients relatives were also guided regarding the role of family members in dealing with these chronic ailments.
1st July 2010 A follow up Rural COPD Education and Training camp was organized at the  Bakraswar of Birbhum district following the previous module. At this camp also, we offered education, training on use of inhalation devices, clinical examination and prescription along with free snacks and some medicines as earlier camps. 
16th May 2010: “Stone Laying Ceremony” for setting up institute's new campus at DG-8, New Town, Rajarhat, Kolkata.
1st May 2010: A “COPD Education & Training camp” was held at Bakreswar at Birbhum district for COPD patients.
28th April 2010: A “COPD Education & Training camp” was held at our Institute premises for COPD patients. Patients were given a basic knowledge about their disease, its symptoms, how to recognize early exacerbations, the role of nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and vaccinations. Training was imparted regarding the correct technique of inhalation therapy. Respiratory exercises were demonstrated and their utility impressed upon the patients. It was attended by over 10 patients from Kolkata. 
4th February 2010:  A “COPD Education & Training camp” was held at our Institute premises for COPD patients.
In this camp the basics of the disease, as well as certain steps to prevent infective exacerbations were discussed. The patients were educated regarding the inhalation technique, lifestyle adjustments that are required. Respiratory exercises were also demonstrated.
The patient’s relatives were also guided regarding the role of family members in dealing with these chronic ailments.
9th August 2009 A follow up Rural COPD Education and Training camp was organized at the  Massenjor of Jharkhand state following the previous module. At this camp also, we offered education, training on use of inhalation devices, free spirometry, clinical examination and prescription along with free snacks, free selected investigations and some medicines as earlier camps.
9th July 2009: A “COPD Education & Training camp” was held at our Institute premises for COPD patients. In this camp the basics of the disease, as well as certain steps to prevent infective exacerbations were discussed. The patients were educated regarding the lifestyle adjustments that are required. Specific tips regarding nutrition and diet were also given. Respiratory exercises and a model of modified pulmonary rehabilitation was also demonstrated. They were enlightened regarding the preventive role of vaccination in this disease. Last but not the least the patients relatives were also guided regarding the role of family members in dealing with these chronic ailments.
13th and 14th June 2009: A follow up Rural COPD Education & Training camp was organized at Panchra and Kodday village of Birbhum district following the previous module and another camp conducted at the Massenjor of Jharkhand state. These camps were attended by a huge number of patients (above 100 in number). As before, we offered education, training on use of inhalation devices, free spirometry, clinical examination and prescription along with free snacks, free selected investigations, bus fair, and some medicines. 
   
4th June 2009: Nurses Training Programme: A two hour nurses training programme and interactive session was conducted, which dealt with the topics of : Oxygen therapy and Prevention of Nosocomial Infection. The programme was attended by ICU and ward nurses of nearby nursing homes.  This was totally an intellectual and benevolent venture keeping in view the motto of the institute. The institute plans to conduct similar training modules on relevant issues on a regular basis in future.   
31st May  2009: Workshop on Spirometry day to day practice was conducted by the institute, where basic understanding and interpretation of PFT was taught to a target audience of general physicians from Kolkata and nearby districts. More than fifty practitoners attended the workshop. The simple and interactive nature of teaching was highly appriciated.
26th Apr 2009: A follow up camp "Rural COPD Education & Training camp" was organized at Suri and another camp conducted at the village  Panchra, Birbhum following the previous module. These camps were attended by a huge number of patients (almost 120 in number). As before, we offered education, training on use of inhalation devices, free spirometry, clinical examination and prescription along with free snacks, free selected investigations, bus fair, and some medicines. 29th Mar 2009: The Institute organized the 2nd “ Reorientation Programme for practicing doctors” at Hotel Sojourn , Salt Lake. It was attended by physicians from the South 24- Parganas. The programme dealt mainly with the practical aspects of airway diseases, pleural diseases & respiratory emergencies. It was also an open session for interaction among the participants and the Faculty regarding the day to day problems and dilemma in management of respiratory diseases.
7th Mar 2009: A Rural COPD Education & Training camp was conducted at the municipality hall of  Suri, district headquarter town of Birbhum, West Bengal. Patients were imparted basic knowledge regarding COPD and its management  especially stressing on the issue of smoking cessation on a format. 82 (eighty two) patients were examined with their spirometry being performed. The education was imparted upon a curriculum prepared at the Institute and the content being published as a booklet that was offered to all the attendees. We offered free chest x-ray to selected patients and distributed with dry powder inhales (free of cost) as far as possible. The program was made possible because a) assistance from the West Bengal Liver Foundation that offered us their volunteers to be trained beforehand under us to select and get the suffering COPD patients to the camp, b) The Chest Foundation of ACCP for their award, c) the zeal and dedication of our members and the volunteers, and d) the proper planning and organization with rehearsal before to deal with such huge crowd effectively. We have paid the transport fair to the patients who has BPL ( below the poverty line) card. The total program lasted about seven hours and everyone including the patients and their escorts were offered a heavy snacks. It has been a highly satisfying experience for all of us.
15th Feb 2009: The institute organized its 1st Reorientation Programme for practicing doctors” at Hotel Sojourn , Salt Lake.” It was attended by over 20 physicians from North 24-Parganas and Hoogly. It was a one day program on a prescheduled curriculum. The physicians described it as highly successful and helpful venture.   
  
 5th Feb 2009: A “COPD Education & Training camp” was held at our Institute premises for COPD patients. Patients were given a basic knowledge about their disease, its symptoms, how to recognize early exacerbations, the role of nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and vaccinations. Training was imparted regarding the correct technique of inhalation therapy. Respiratory exercises were demonstrated and their utility impressed upon the patients. It was attended by around 30 patients from Kolkata and its periphery. This has been apart of our activities for a long time; it has got a momentum after the ACCP has awarded us the ‘Chest Foundation Award’ in 2008.
16th -18th Jan 2009: The Institute conducted a 3 day Spirometry Technician training workshop organized at Salt Lake Municipality auditorium under the auspices of Indian Chest Society. It was attended by around 20 candidates from all over the state. There were theoretical and practical classes and all the candidates had to undergo a rigorous 16 hours of practical and hands on training to be eligible for a pre-certificate examination which was conducted on the last day . Certificates were issued both by the Indian Chest Society and the Institute to the successful candidates.
