hospitalThe institute has been striving hard to thrive and move on accomplishment of its motto for last 15 years.

The institute was conceptualized by Dr Parthasarathi Bhattacharyya. It was registered as a society on 18th October 2000
The institute started acting at a small nursing home (Orchid Nursing Home), at Phoolbagan, Kolkata in the year 2000 AD with an out-patient and a very small in-house activities. (The initial consultant were Dr. Parthasarathi Bhattacharyya, Dr. Dipankar Sarkar, Dr. Gouri Shankar Bhattacharyya and were supported by residents as Dr. Saikat Nag, Dr. Sushmita RoyChowdhury, Dr. Saibal Ghosh, Dr. Sujan Bardhan, Dr. Anirban Sarkar, Dr. Liaquat Ali, and others; many of them have subsequently became independent and renowned pulmonologists).

It soon gathered a strong goodwill despite a lot of logistic limitations. We could innovate several broncoscopic procedure in that small place as “bronchoscopic endobronchial sealing for hemoptysis” (published in CHEST), endobronchial treatment of emphysematous bullae (published in European Respiratory Journal), and others procedures (as bronchoscopic treatment of broncho-pleural fistula (published in Indian Journal of Chest Diseases and Allied Sciences)).

The institute was granted 80G and 12 A provision of the income tax act on 24.09.2007 and 18.10.2000.

It was recognized as a SIRO (Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) on 07.07.06 and we have been continuing the status since then.

The institute has been granted the 35 I (ii) of the income tax provision on 01.04.07.

The institute started it annual ALL INDIA respiratory update (the PULMOCON) from the year 2003. This theme based two day conference has gained popularity in the country and for last three years we have been granted with CME points by the Medical council of India.

The institute has already been publishing a regular bulletin cum journal ‘The Pulmo- Face’ for over 10 years and it holds an annual pulmonary update ‘Pulmocon’ that has become a popular event in the academic calendar of the pulmonologists of the country.

During this period the in-house patient care activities were seriously hampered for lack of freedom and support, and the interventional innovations also came to a halt. The institute focused on other areas more vigorously. During this time it had extended innovative research activities to a much wider field to include DPLD, COPD, Chronic asthma etc. In all these domains the institute has marked its originality in innovative development through several publications. Mainly for lack of logistic support, we could not make very high quality evidence but could place our original innovative ideas in different indexed and peer reviewed national and international journals. The institute got the recognition as a SIRO (Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) in the year 2006 and has been continuing to enjoy the status. We also indulged into collaborative research during this period. We collaborated with IICB (Indian Institute of Chemical Biology), IIT (Indian institute of Technology, Kharagpur), Calcutta University, National Institute of Biogenomic Research like organizations of repute to serve our research quest.

Alongside, the institute also engaged itself in rural activities where scientific quest got married with social welfare. It has tried to make as feasible substitute of formal pulmonary rehabilitation for COPD in rural settings (under consideration for publication in a journal).

The institute had been badly crunched with logistic problems including space and finance. By 2008 it bought a land at New Town from the Government of West Bengal, by 2010 the architectural plan was sanctioned and it look us 5 years to build the basement, the ground and the 1st floors to shift by 2015.
